Greetings All!

Well it’s been awhile but I’m back! Yay! Adam said I needed to update more often so he’d have something to read when he’s bored. So his wish is my command! hehe

So I just got back from spending a week back home in CA with the family. This was my first trip back since we moved here to Colorado so that was nice. It was quite the whirlwind trip though. Susan and I both flew in on Thursday (me from here, her from Chicago). Friday we drove down with the parents, picked up Alyssa in Irvine and headed out to my grandma’s. Only 11 hours in the car, fun times! Saturday we had a family celebration for my grandma’s 90th birthday. She seemed really excited that Susan and I had come all the way just for that which definitely made the trip worth it. Plus it was nice seeing family I hadn’t seen in awhile.

Sunday we drove back up to Burbank for my cousin’s (on the other side) baptism. We weren’t there for very long, just long enough for the ceremony and dinner after. It was nice to see everyone but it was definitely quick. After dinner we got back in the car for the 6 hour trip back home which is where the real fun began, lol. On the way back, we almost got rundown by a big-rig truck when traffic came to a complete stop due to some construction. The truck ended up driving into the middle dirt median so as not to run into all the cars. It was pretty scary, I mean what if the driver hadn’t been paying attention enough to do that! Then after that we got to a point where a car off to the side was completely engulfed in flames. Like as we’re driving by you can feel the heat. It was crazy and I’m not entirely sure it was safe but I guess we survived so oh well, hehe.

Monday Susan left to go back to Chicago and I stayed until Wednesday visiting with the parents. It was pretty low-key until Tuesday night when we had an earthquake. 5.6! Apparently that’s the largest one in the area since the Loma Prieta in 1989, which is really crazy. I was sitting at the kitchen table when it happened and I actually got up and moved into the doorway. Usually I don’t move at all because a) by the time you realize it’s happening, it’s over and b) they usually aren’t strong enough to worry about. But this one seemed to last for quite awhile. I actually kept expecting it to get worse so I guess I’m just glad it didn’t. Luckily there was no damage or anything, just a few swinging chandeliers, hehe.

So I’m back in Colorado now. We’re about halfway through the deployment at this point and I think I’m handling it pretty well. It has been a little more lonely since I got back from CA simply because I’d gotten used to having people around and now I don’t again. But it’s fine, I’m keeping busy and everything. My parents are coming for Thanksgiving which will be nice and then I’ll be going back home for Christmas. After that Adam should be just about ready to return! So when you think about it, it’s practically done, or at least that’s what I’m telling myself, hehe. Oh and if you’d like to read a little about the area Adam is in, he sent me a link to this article earlier: Article Link. Sounds lovely, no? Anyone want to trade with him? hehe

Ok, well it’s getting late here so I’m going to go ahead and wrap this up. Until next time…

So Random!

When I came home from the gym this morning, I stopped and checked the mail. What did I find in there….well…

Martha Stewart Living. And not just one issue, not just two issues, but THREE issues! Umm, ok, I don’t even subscribe to this magazine! LOL My first thought was maybe it got put in the wrong box but no they all had the correct address and were addressed to Adam? Mmm, k. It wasn’t until I got home and actually looked at all three of them that I realized there was a sticker on the August issue that said “You get 4 complementary issues courtesy of KB Home.” Now KB Home is our home builder here and I know they have teamed up with Martha for some of their housing projects. But sending out complementary issues of the magazine still seems a bit random. Oh well, I’ve never read it before so it might be a nice change of pace!

Other than that today was a pretty run of the mill day:

  • Did some job hunting stuff, finally got around to ordering my academic transcript
  • Made a quick trip to Target - someone had mentioned the other day that Target had all of The Office stuff in the dollar section so I picked up a magnetic to-do list thing for the kitchen. Maybe now I won’t have to make multiple trips to the store when I forget the one item I needed, hehe.
  • Had some mini-pizzas for dinner, yummy.
  • Fought with my computer some, although this time I think I managed to outsmart it, hehe.

And now here we are, exciting, no? hehe Ok well I think that concludes this post. Until next time…

Checking In!

Hey everyone, it’s been awhile, no? hehe I’ve decided I’m going to try and update more often now that Adam isn’t here, that way he’ll know more about what I’m up too and so will you! Yay!

So for those that don’t know Adam is currently deployed to Iraq. He left at the end of August, so I guess he’s been gone about three weeks? It’s been ok so far, some days better than others, but I think I’m doing pretty well so far. Just trying not to get too bored, hehe. I think Adam’s doing pretty well where he is as well, just working on learning his new job and everything. So far we’ve been able to talk about once a day or so, which is nice. Thank goodness for living in the technology age, huh? I can’t imagine if the only contact was letters!

Ok well I’m going to keep this short. Hopefully I can get into a better updating routine! Until next time…

Happy August!

Wow, what in the world happened to July?! Can you believe it’s August already? I can’t! I guess I’ll do a quick recap of what’s been going on in the past…umm…month. LOL

Alyssa’s Visit: Oh it was so fun! So nice to have family here to hang out with and someone that will actually go shopping in girly stores with me! hehe We had quite a busy week while she was here. We managed to hit up the Cheyanne Mountain Zoo (feeding the giraffes was definitely a highlight), Garden of the Gods, the Royal Gorge (boy does that bridge sway!!), the mall (Forever 21, finally! Adam isn’t patient enough for me to go there when we shop), Manitou Springs & 4th of July fireworks, the Olympic Training center…I think that was mostly it? We had a list of things we wanted to do and I think we made it through a majority of them. And she even got to experience one of our crazy storms! Our street literally looked like a rushing river and there was so much hail it look like it had snowed. It was quite the welcome for her considering it happened the first day she arrived! LOL

Speaking of the weather…Can I just say that the weather here is CRAZY?! When we first moved here, everyone told us about how it’s so dry here (as in not humid) and how they occasionally get thunderstorms in the afternoon but then it clears up. Umm, I have no idea what they were talking about, because that is definitely not what we’ve seen. We’ve had crazy thunderstorms, flash flood warnings pretty much everyday and anytime it’s cloudy it is most definitely humid! Ugh! The worst part is it makes it impossible to do anything outside since at a moment’s notice you might be caught in a downpour. Here’s to hoping Fall will be nicer!

Rain, rain, go away: So last weekend Adam and I decided to go to see the Sky Sox since the Zooperstars were performing. Love them! As were leaving the house it started drizzling a little but we figured we’d go anyway, in the hopes that it would clear up. Well we bought our tickets, got to our seats and had just barely gotten settled when it starts hailing. HAILING! Even though I had brought our handy Korean umbrella, we eventually ended up retreating to the top of the stadium along with the rest of the crowd. The game ended up being delayed for an hour until the rain let up just enough for them to decide it was ok to start. Sadly, the rain went back and forth between drizzling and pouring the entire game. It was pretty miserable but in one of those, this is so awful it’s hilarious kind of ways. At least the Sky Sox won this time!

Taking in the local culture: Adam and I have actually been trying to experience more of the area here. We’ve been to a couple local restaurants, some farmer’s markets, a concert in the park. There actually are a lot of activities here in summer, including ones that are free, woohoo! The one that I’m most excited about is the concerts at America the Beautiful Park. They’re on Wednesday’s at 6pm and everyone packs a picnic dinner and comes out to the park. Last time the musical entertainment was a swing band, so fun! We only stayed for a little bit as we hadn’t planned on staying but I’m hoping to go this Wednesday. Seems like a fun night out of the house!

House time: We are officially all unpacked…HA, I wish I could say that! We actually were doing pretty well putting everything away before Alyssa came but since then we haven’t really done much. My goal this week is to tackle the office as that’s where a majority of the boxes still are. The hardest part has been trying to figure out where everything goes since so much of it had been in storage. There were a lot of things I’d forgotten about! Oh well, hopefully I can get a bunch done before Susan arrives on Sunday!

Entertainment: We did see a couple of movies last month - Harry Potter & Hairspray - I was really excited to seeboth and they definitely didn’t disappoint. Although I was a tad confused during Harry Potter as some parts were completely different from the book, but luckily Adam had just finished the 5th book so he was able to answer my questions. Oh, and I did manage to read the 6th book in time for the 7th to be released although it did take some marathon reading! Speaking of the 7th book, I loved it! I think it’s by far my favorite, probably because I was right in my theories about what would happen. But it was fun to see everything from the past books come together. If you haven’t taken the time to read the books, you really should, the movies are nowhere near as good! And if you haven’t seen Hairspray, what are you waiting for! It is so fun and just as good, if not better, than the theater version! Yay!

Ok well it’s getting late here so I’m going to wrap this up! Until next time…

Hey there blogland!

It’s been awhile! Adam and I survived the moving craziness. Everything is mostly put away except for a few boxes in the office and bedroom. But I think we’ve done pretty well so far! It’s definitely much better than it was when we started.

Visit time!
So Alyssa (my youngest sister) arrives today. Woohoo! I haven’t seen her since we moved here so it should be pretty fun. I’m sure she’ll be pleased to know that we have an actual bed for her to sleep on and not just an air matress. Yay! I’ll try and update throughout the week about our adventures!

Ratatouille!
Adam and I finally took a break from all the unpacking last night and went and saw Ratatouille. Oh my gosh, it was fantastic! Definitely one of my favorite movies that I’ve seen in a while. If you haven’t seen it, you definitely should! It’s really not just for kids, I promise!

Ok well I’m going to keep this short. Alyssa is flying into the Denver airport which is about an hour and half from here so I’m going to make a day of it and do some errands in Denver, which means I need to start getting ready. Until next time!

Weekend Craziness!

Craziness with a capital C! That’s how I’d describe this past weekend. There’s so much to share so let’s get on with it! lol

Friday
Ok so Friday, Adam had the day off since it was a training holiday. We had planned to spend the day fixing up some stuff around the new house in preperation for the arrival of our moving shipments at the beginning of the week. Saturday we were going to paint the master bedroom so that it would be finished by the time our furniture arrived. But of course, when you’re dealing with the military, nothing is ever as simple as it should be. LOL

Around noon on Friday we get a bunch of phone calls, like 5 calls in 2 minutes. Turns out it was the movers with our shipment from Monterey. Apparently it had arrived and they wouldn’t authorize storage for it so we had to let them deliver it right then. Great. So we ended up with stuff everywhere except the bedroom since we were planning on painting that room. Such a mess! By the time the movers finished it was after 3pm and we needed to start getting ready for our evening.

Friday Evening
Friday night we had tickets to see Kathy Griffin in Denver. Woohoo! Because of the whole moving surprise in the morning we didn’t end up leaving when we planned, so dinner ended up being a quick stop at Buffalo Wild Wings. Not exactly what I had wanted but it worked out fine. I think the best part was the weather was gorgeous so we ate outside on the patio, so nice. Ok on to Kathy Griffin! We arrived at the theater and the ushers took us to our seats. When I showed her the ticket she was all, “oh these are really close!” Now I had bought these tickets online about two weeks before the show, and all the pricing for the seats were the same so I went ahead and selected “best available.” Since we had never been to this theater before I really had no idea where the seats would be. Adam and I had tried to figure it out on their online chart but we weren’t sure where exactly they were. Our guess was that they were at the very back of the orchestra section which we figured would be fine. So the usher is walking us to our seats and we keep going down, down, down towards the stage. We finally get to…the orchestra pit, and there are our seats. They were literally in the area where the orchestra would normally be. Third row! I was shocked, SHOCKED! LOL It seriously could not have gotten better than that! The funniest part was almost everyone that were seated after us made the same comments about how they didn’t realize that’s where the seats were either! Too funny!

The show itself was absolutely fantastic! It was two hours of non-stop laughing, I swear. So awesome! If you ever get a chance you should definitely go! Here’s the super fantabulous photo I took during the show:

dscn0930.jpg

LOL! I had only taken Adam’s little P&S camera since I wasn’t sure if we’d even be able to take photos in the theater. It doesn’t exactly do well in low light, lol. There were people taking pictures with their flash on but I wasn’t sure if that was ok given how close we were. She’s looking a little ghost like but oh well, lol.

Ok let’s move on to Saturday, shall we?

Saturday
Saturday was painting day. I am so glad this time we only had the master bedroom to do, and even though it’s bigger than the other rooms, it was by far the easiest one to do. We were on a roll! I guess practice really does make perfect, lol. This was definitely the easiest and best paint job of the bunch, yay! The color is a kind of tranquil blue-green kind of color. I was going for something classy yet calming, without being too old fashioned. I LOVE how it came out. I think it may actually be my favorite room color we chose.

img_4571.jpg

Isn’t it pretty? It’s actually really calming and relaxing when you’re in there. Love it!

And with that we’ve finally made it to Sunday! Are you still with me?

Sunday
Sunday was Circus day! LOL The Ringling Bros circus was in town and the military bought out the entire morning show so we were able to go for free. Woohoo! It was actually really fun. I was surprised by how many of the acts I remember seeing from when I was really little. Here’s a few photos, it was pretty dark in the arena so I didn’t really attempt too many and the few that I did take aren’t the sharpest. But I think you can still get the idea, hehe.trapeze.jpg

Some trapeze artists. I always think their tricks look so fun and totally crazy at the same time. lol

bellobrate.jpg

This one was taken during the “Bello-bration.” Bello is the clown who is the star of the show. He has this really crazy straight up hair and if you look closely everyone in this photo does too. The people in the little cars are all volunteers and they all had these orange hair-hats. LOL It was pretty funny.

Ok well it’s getting late so I’m going to wrap this up. Until next time…

It’s done!

Woohoo, the painting in two of the rooms is completed! Adam and I went back over to the house yesterday and did all the touch up work. I’m really excited, they look pretty good. Now we only have the master bedroom to go, yay! I had a few requests for pictures so here ya go…

This is my room. It’s going to be the computer/office/scrapbook area.

green-room.jpg

This is Adam’s room. He’s wanting to make it into a movie room. I think it’s hard to tell in the photo but it’s supposed to be a burnt orange-red color. The photo makes it look a lot redder than it really is.

red-room.jpg

Today we had our 2nd shipment of goods from Korea delivered. Most of it was odds and ends that we knew we didn’t really need for awhile. Everything had been all wrapped in paper so it was almost like Christmas opening everything and being like, “Oh yeah, that’s where those went!” It should be really interesting when we get everything that’s been in storage for a year and half, lol.

Comedy Gold!
Can I just say that I think this is going to be the best summer TV season yet?! So many good shows! But these are the two I’m most excited about…

robbig.jpg

Yay, Rob & Big is back! I just love this show. The relationship between the two guys is just so hilarious and this season they added in…a mini horse! It is the most ridiculous thing ever but oh so funny to watch. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should. I was skeptical at first too but now I can’t miss it.

kathygriffin.jpg

And the new season of My Life on the D-List started this week. Love this show! It’s so funny to see all the situations she finds herself in. The cool part is that on a whim I looked up when she was on tour and it turns out she’ll be in Denver on the 15th. Woohoo! I’m the proud owner of 2 tickets! I’m totally excited but I have a feeling Adam doesn’t quite share my excitement. His response was “just consider this my ‘going to the ballet’” LOL! Oh well, I’m sure he’ll enjoy it once we get there.

Ok well that’s all for now. Until next time…

So sore!

Adam and I spent all weekend painting over at the new house. It was so much work! By the end of the first day my entire body hurt. I could barely move my wrists and hands, I swear! It was awful! We did manage to get two rooms almost completely finished. The one might still need a second coat but the other just needs some clean up. It was definitely more work than I thought it would be. I will be glad when we’re finished for sure.

Other than the weekend was pretty tame. We did have lunch at this local place called Culver’s which advertises their butterburgers and frozen custard. I was really hoping the burgers would be as good as In-n-Out but alas, no luck. They were just standard burgers which was surprising given how many cars are usually parked there. Maybe the custard is better?

Ok well, it’s getting late so I should wrap this up. Until next time…

Holy Cow!

Wow, where the heck did this week go? Was my birthday really over a week ago? Crazy! I think Adam’s four-day weekend threw me all off. So I guess we’ll go ahead and start off with a quick birthday recap!

So the day of my birthday was pretty good. Opened some presents from the family. Got a few dvds, some books and the new Maroon 5 cd. Adam and I went to dinner at Carrabas. We hadn’t been there since we first moved here. I wasn’t really all that impressed that first time we went but this time it was really really good! I’ll definitely be up for going again. For dessert we came home and had Angel food cake with strawberries and Cool-whip. So good! Adam did an excellent baking job, hehe.

Friday we had tickets for the Sky Sox game which is the local AAA affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. They were playing against the Sacramento RiverCats so I was a little torn as for who to cheer for. I ended up being one of the only people cheering for the RiverCats but I was fine with that since they kicked butt! I think the final score was like 8-1, which included a grand slam in the 1st inning, woohoo! Oh but the best part of the game was the Zooperstars! One of the local tv stations here had been playing ads all week about them being the entertainment for Friday night’s game and based on the footage, I thought they were just going to be mascot-type characters that did crazy things. But oh no, the real things was sooo much better! They’re actually these huge inflatable charaters with a person inside and they did all kinds of hilarious dance moves. It was awesome! LOL

And now for the big, big news of the week, check it out…img_4467-copy-2.jpg

Yes, that’s right, we closed on our new house this week! We’re officially homeowners! This is me in the obligatory new-key-turning photo, lol. So far being a homeowner hasn’t been too bad. We’ve had to do a few maintenance things, like sealing the tile grout and fixing the garage floor. Next up is painting which, if all goes well, should be this weekend’s task. We’ll see how that goes.

Ok well that’s all I’ve got for now. Hope everyone had a good week and an even better weekend! Until next time…

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yes that’s right today is my birthday! Woohoo! I am turning the big 2-5…yikes! That means I’m a quarter of a century old! LOL At 9:05 PST is technically when I was born so we’re almost there! haha My mom told me this morning that this time frame is not the part she wants to remember, LOL. Sorry mom, didn’t my cuteness make up for it? hehe

I’m not sure what the plan is for today. I do know that we’re having Angel Food cake with strawberries and cool whip for my cake this year. Adam made it yesterday and it smelled so good. I’m pretty sure he wanted to have some yesterday, I know he already broke open the cool whip, LOL! Other than that I’m supposed to figure out where I want to go to dinner and I suppose there will be some presents. Guess I’ll get to see how well my Kaboodle birthday wish list worked, hehe.

Ok that’s all I’ve got for now. It’s time to get this day started! Woohoo!
