Greetings All!
Well it’s been awhile but I’m back! Yay! Adam said I needed to update more often so he’d have something to read when he’s bored. So his wish is my command! hehe
So I just got back from spending a week back home in CA with the family. This was my first trip back since we moved here to Colorado so that was nice. It was quite the whirlwind trip though. Susan and I both flew in on Thursday (me from here, her from Chicago). Friday we drove down with the parents, picked up Alyssa in Irvine and headed out to my grandma’s. Only 11 hours in the car, fun times! Saturday we had a family celebration for my grandma’s 90th birthday. She seemed really excited that Susan and I had come all the way just for that which definitely made the trip worth it. Plus it was nice seeing family I hadn’t seen in awhile.
Sunday we drove back up to Burbank for my cousin’s (on the other side) baptism. We weren’t there for very long, just long enough for the ceremony and dinner after. It was nice to see everyone but it was definitely quick. After dinner we got back in the car for the 6 hour trip back home which is where the real fun began, lol. On the way back, we almost got rundown by a big-rig truck when traffic came to a complete stop due to some construction. The truck ended up driving into the middle dirt median so as not to run into all the cars. It was pretty scary, I mean what if the driver hadn’t been paying attention enough to do that! Then after that we got to a point where a car off to the side was completely engulfed in flames. Like as we’re driving by you can feel the heat. It was crazy and I’m not entirely sure it was safe but I guess we survived so oh well, hehe.
Monday Susan left to go back to Chicago and I stayed until Wednesday visiting with the parents. It was pretty low-key until Tuesday night when we had an earthquake. 5.6! Apparently that’s the largest one in the area since the Loma Prieta in 1989, which is really crazy. I was sitting at the kitchen table when it happened and I actually got up and moved into the doorway. Usually I don’t move at all because a) by the time you realize it’s happening, it’s over and b) they usually aren’t strong enough to worry about. But this one seemed to last for quite awhile. I actually kept expecting it to get worse so I guess I’m just glad it didn’t. Luckily there was no damage or anything, just a few swinging chandeliers, hehe.
So I’m back in Colorado now. We’re about halfway through the deployment at this point and I think I’m handling it pretty well. It has been a little more lonely since I got back from CA simply because I’d gotten used to having people around and now I don’t again. But it’s fine, I’m keeping busy and everything. My parents are coming for Thanksgiving which will be nice and then I’ll be going back home for Christmas. After that Adam should be just about ready to return! So when you think about it, it’s practically done, or at least that’s what I’m telling myself, hehe. Oh and if you’d like to read a little about the area Adam is in, he sent me a link to this article earlier: Article Link. Sounds lovely, no? Anyone want to trade with him? hehe
Ok, well it’s getting late here so I’m going to go ahead and wrap this up. Until next time…
